Christ motivates single Mom to take in troubled girl

Friday a few weeks ago at work (Ford Motor Company), I had lunch with our Thursday lunchtime Bible Study leader, Carol T (omitting her last name – she's concerned about revealing the drug problem of the woman in this story). She had been asking for donations for girls clothing, girls shoes, an extra bed. So I wanted to find out what the full story was.

Carol is a regular volunteer at her son's high school in Michigan, and the counselors have known Carol as a caring volunteer for years. So when the counselors found out that one of their best students, an African American girl, had…

Free Money? Seems Impossible. Possible.

Wow!! I couldn't believe it... I was in shock. I counted the thick wad of money... $1,000 in cash... an anonymous gift. The second anonymous (cash) gift in the past few weeks. It was $520 the first time. It didn't appear to be from the same source this time. Who did we know that could afford to be so generous? God is really trying to get a message to us with this one, I thought. I was shaking and almost giddy. I could sense the lady standing next to me as I counted the money wonder in disbelief (is this some kind of illegal money?) so I told her in my amazement that it was a gift and I…

The Lord's sense of humor, a mute man, and the sports section

The Lord and I have had a love affair since I was a child because I have always felt the Lord's touch in my life. I have been blessed to have very holy parents but I have also known many truly spiritual people who entered my life briefly and positively influenced many of my life choices. I have always asked questions. Homilies, class lessons and reading assignments answered my questions while I was a student.

In the early 1970's I had just resolved a crisis of faith which led me to accept a role I had previously relegated to ordained people. Although I was certain that I loved God, I…

She's a real Christian, and he noticed

Carol T, the longtime leader of the Thursday lunchtime Bible Study at my building at Ford Motor Company, wanted to encourage the rest of us to let Jesus' teaching color our lives at all times, even at work. She shared this email with us:

"Hey I don't normally send these but I really think this one is appropriate because of our current study – people do watch us! I was in the C-Store just this morning speaking to a guy who admitted to asking around about me because I was different (no comments Mark & Brian & Chuck). I said I was a Christian he said ya I know (he laughed) and you may…

The Murderer Who Became a Nun

This story submitted by Dan Fedder of Oakland County, Michigan, who is a member of a Men's Fellowship.

I have been part of a volunteer prison ministry for years at a prison in Washtenaw County, Michigan. While there, I met a woman that everyone knew only as "Granny". She had been in prison for 42 years, and was serving a life sentence without parole for a murder she committed when she was a very young woman. Only in the past year did I discover what her real name was, but for her sake, I won't share it here.

Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, in her waning days in office (end of…

The Shirt Story - God Rewarded Generosity

The coincidence was too bloody amazing.

I had been trying to hold out before buying any more business shirts for work, but all of them were starting to show fraying around the collar and thin fabric at the elbows. So I told my wife Mary I wanted to go shopping on the weekend to get ten new shirts to replace the old ones. At $30 a shirt, that would be about $300. She said OK.

Just before the weekend we ran into some friends from another church we hadn’t seen for a while. We had several minutes to chat, so we caught up with all that had happened in the past several months. The…
